On Friday 18th July, a group of eight (five from Girvan, two from the Borders) left for the Emerald Isle to take part in Challenge for Youth’s Annual Summer Camp. The group consisted of 3 Adults (Lucy, Rachael & Amanda) and 5 young people (Maxine, Chloe, Daniel, Christina & Rhiannon).
The Camp costs were part subsidised by Girvan Youth Trust, however, we did have to organise a fundraiser to cover some of the costs. We had a stall at the Harbour Gala Car Boot and also had face painting and glitter tattoos at the Boating Pond most Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
After a last minute change or two, we found out we would have two girls from the Scottish Borders joining us on the Camp. Christina & Rhiannon arrived the evening before we left and gelled with Chloe, Daniel and Maxine straight away! Christina and Rhiannon, both from Connect Youth Project, received this opportunity as Girvan Youth Trust had circulated information about the Camp within the Rank Foundations YARN Network opening up the chance to other Scottish youth groups in order to fill our allocated spaces.
Finally, Friday morning arrived and we packed our bags onto the minibus and headed for Cairnryan Ferry Port. The short minibus journey was an ideal opportunity for the group to get to know each other better (and for us to share horror stories about camping!). Before long we were on the ferry – we were on our way to Ireland!! (Major excitement for Amanda who was visiting Ireland for the first time!)...........
